Training

Erin Sweeney DRESSAGE

Dressage Training
Erin has over 25 years’ experience starting and developing warmblood horses.  Her training system is based on classical concepts of gradually building a horse’s confidence, and mental and physical fitness.  This starts with establishing a horse’s trust in and obedience to the rider.  In addition to regular dressage training, each horse in training also learns longeing, ground manners, and hacking out with other horses. The same basics apply to every horse whether it is destined on to be a top dressage horse, a show hunter, or an amateur mount.

She began her dressage career at November Hill and Hilton Farms working for several years as working student, barn manager,  and later assistant trainer under German certified reitlehrer Gerd Zuther.  It was at November Hill that she learned about performance testing as member of the riding team in 4 American Hanoverian Society sanctioned 100 day stallion tests.  She also learned to prepare and present young mares for AHS mare performance tests.

Erin has a strong emphasis on constantly continuing her dressage education and rides in clinics regularly.  She is honored to have been instructed by  internationally recognized trainers and clinicians Lars Petersen, Linda Zang, Shannon Dueck, and Conrad Schumacher.  Conrad Schumacher, top dressage clinician and Olympic coach, considers Erin to be one of the top five people IN THE WORLD to start horses correctly and with empathy.  Her well rounded horses are highly sought after across the US.  Please contact her for training availability.

Showing
It was also over two decades ago that Erin began her dressage show career at November Hill Farm showing sales and training horses as well as breeding stallions at USEF/USDF recognized competitions. Over the years dressage horses Erin has shown have achieved scores as high as 80% in USEF tests, FEI/USEF young horse classes, and Materiale classes, winning countless blue ribbons, multiple division championships, overall high score awards, and chapter and national year end awards.

Sales
Erin has sold horses with great success with a personal emphasis on careful matching of horse and rider.  She has sold horses to adult amateurs as well as to top riders and dressage judges including Lars Peterson, Kathy Rowse, Pati Pierucci, Cathy Tucker Slaterbeck.

Lessons/Clinics
Erin also actively trains riders and gives clinics.  Her teaching method focuses on horse/rider harmony, rider position, and timing/use of the aids to enable a rider accomplish his or her training goals.  Her students have gone on ride confidently and effectively at home and in the show ring and have gone on to earn USDF medals.  Erin loves teaching and considers it a passion.  Please contact her for lesson and clinic availability.
